Do you like mystery’s or conspiracy theories? Well here’s a REAL doozie for ya!
John Feigenbaum didn’t sleep at all during his red-eye flight across the country. He’s not a nervous flier — it was just that in order to get through security he had put the dime in his pocket and as he strapped himself into his seat he feared it would fall out.
So he promptly opened his briefcase and placed it inside. He sort of sighed as he did it, but he wouldn’t feel totally comfortable until he got to his destination. What’s so important about this dime you ask? Is it a new weapon of mass destruction we haven’t heard about?
No no…It’s just that the dime he was carrying is worth… $1.9 Million Dollars!
Why would one thin dime be worth that much money, you ask? That’s where the mystery begins, because under normal circumstances that dime would NEVER have been worth so much… in fact it’s one of the rarest and at the same time, the greatest mystery in U.S. coins!
You see over a hundred and fifteen years ago, in 1892 ,Charles E Barber, the sixth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint created a design for a new coin, a dime that was to be minted in San Francisco. It was a beautiful new design. It featured a feminine head of Liberty and the back of the coin featured the words “ONE DIME” enclosed in a wreath.
There was nothing strange about this design or the coin itself, except that two years later, in 1894, something happened to make this dime; the 1894-S dime, the rarest and most valuable coin in U.S. history.
It’s Only A Dime… Dammit
What made this coin so rare? Here is where the mystery deepens, but before I reveal the conspiracy…
Do you have a dime in your pocket or perhaps in the coin jar? Please, if you can, go get one. .. I’ll wait.
The lonely dime… did you know that the dime you are holding in your hand has approximately 118 ridges on it? That dime is very much like your health I think. We often take it for granted and like the 1894 S “Barber Dime” we only begin to value it as we get older or don’t have it (health that is) anymore.
What is the true value– of our health? Most people would say it’s priceless.Sounds great, it’s the PC thing to say right? But what are you doing to insure your good health? Some people don’t have a choice… their health is taken from them!
Vietnam And Iraq… What The?
You see I served in Vietnam and according to a Washington Post article by Ronald Glasser, the troops are no longer dying from the kind of injuries that killed thousands in Vietnam. The ratio of wounded to fatalities in Iraq is 16 to 1; whereas in Vietnam it is was 2.6 to 1, so there are six times more wounded coming back to be cared for.
That means more soldiers missing– arms, legs, eyes etc…
A little tough for these guys and gals to go to the gym or exercise don’t you think? That’s why I want to give back to the men and women of our Armed forces by giving away as many Bully Extreme Home gyms and of course, money to aid them in their recovery.
Why the Bully Extreme?
Well it doesn’t weight much and over 29 exercises can be done while seated in a wheel chair, on the couch watching tv or wherever. And since there are no straps to add or move it makes it very easy for those with disabilities to use.
Am I My Brothers Keeper?
Would you do me a personal favor? I promise not to ask for much.
You can help to solve a problem which is of significance to all Americans and members of the Armed forces.
Please assist me in helping the disabled members of the Armed Forces by donating rehabilitative and exercise equipment to the VA.
I will be donating $20.00 of each Bully Extreme purchased from now until I have reached my personal goal Of $100,000.
How can you help?
You can help by visiting www.bullyxtreme.net and purchasing a Bully for your self, a friend or family member. You are giving a gift of health.
I will include a free Bully eXtreme carry case ($19.95 Retail value) at no charge as my way of thanking you!
Please support me in helping those who have given so much, what ever your politics, set them aside and help me, help them.
Thank You I appreciate your help. Now back to our mystery…
What Was The Mystery?
Getting back to our story– you see oddly enough only 24 of these coins were ever minted in 1894! No one to this day knows why only 24 dimes were minted, but strangely enough all of them disappeared… until now!
It’s widely held theory in” Walter Breen’s Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins” that the 24 coins were struck by Mint Superintendent J. Daggett for a group of banker friends.
Seven of Mr. Daggett’s friends each received 3 coins, and he gave his three to his daughter.Mr. Daggett told his daughter to put the coins away until she was as old as he was, then she could sell them for a good price. On the daughters way home, she supposedly used one to buy a dish of ice cream. She kept the other two until 1954 when she sold them to coin dealer Earl Parker.
Only 9 have surfaced to date… so look in your pockets you never know.
Your Friend,
Frank Sherrill
